- Birthdays. February is a big birthday month here at Sandholm Ranch, with Gabe having celebrated his 29th birthday on February 9 and me having celebrated my 30th (yes, 30th) birthday on February 21. We had a great time celebrating both of our birthdays; Sully and I went to Gabe's work on his birthday, took him some birthday balloons, went along on his birthday lunch with his colleagues, and stayed at his work to have birthday cake with him and his colleagues. At home the rest of Gabe's birthday was a bit uneventful with some presents to open, but no cake or special dinner as we hit those high points throughout the day.
My 30th birthday was on February 21, and Gabe went all out for this birthday with a day full of surprises! First, we woke up (well, Sully woke us up) and Gabe let me know he took the day off to spend with Sully and me. Then I got to sleep in a bit more while Gabe and Sully hung out, and then we went out to breakfast at our favorite breakfast place in Issaquah, Washington called the 12th Avenue Cafe. Laid low in the afternoon, then in the evening we took Sully over to Mike and Sarah's so they could watch him, and then made our way to dinner at Chandler's Crabhouse and to the play "The Blue Door" at the Seattle Repertory Theater. It was the best birthday a girl could ask for!
My 30th birthday continued with a party at our house on Saturday, February 24, and lots of folks came over to help celebrate my 30th year. We had a good time, and we can tell that we are getting older; there were four babies at the party (including Sullivan), three pregnant moms and our house was empty at 7:45 PM from a party that started at 3:20 PM (Gabe picked the start time). OK, maybe the house being empty early could be a sign that people had a crappy time instead of being old and needing to get up in the morning, but just an observation. - Family visits. We had both Staci and my mom here this February, which was great! Sullivan got to continue meeting his Iowa family, and it was great to have both Staci and my mom here to hang out with us.
- Gabe's first business trip After Sullivan (A.S.). Gabe left on Sunday, February 25 for three days of business travel to Minneapolis and Detroit. It was Sullivan and my first time alone, and we did pretty good, except for the fact that Sullivan chose that time to decide that he 1) no longer likes his pacifier; and 2) he no longer likes to go to sleep before midnight. The good news is that we're currently working on getting Sullivan to sleep sometime between 8 and 10 PM each night now versus his previous midnight or later schedule.
Also good news is that Gabe had safe travels and was able to get his trip finished with no delays despite traveling between two big snowstorms that hit the Minneapolis area. One snafu was that his bag didn't show up in Minneapolis on his way out from Seattle, so he had to go into the Minneapolis office the next day in the jeans and t-shirt he wore on the plane instead of his shirt and tie, but the people there were quite understanding. The second day he had his bag and was able to show up in his work attire. :)
And, that is February in a nutshell. We'll see if I can do a better job of keeping up on March happenings as they happen. Playing with Sullivan, napping, cleaning, watching re-runs of "Gilmore Girls" (Yes, I'm obsessed with this show...weird, potentially pathetic, but true. I now really want to live in a cute New England town after watching this program!) and jogging (We recently bought a treadmill so Gabe and I no longer have excuses as to why we can't exercise.) all seem to get in the way of me blogging these days!
Oh, and I think I found a way around the video technical difficulties we've had previously. I don't have an easy fix for making the video run directly in our blog, but try clicking here, and you should be taken to YouTube and be able to watch the video. If that doesn't work, please let me know and I'll see what else we can figure out!
