Just a quick update to let you all know that our office did open at 8 AM on Monday, and it looks totally fine on the inside. They must have worked 24/7 this weekend to clean up all of the carnage -- there were no broken desks or cubicles laying around, no dust or anything. It sounds like it will be 4-6 months before the holes in the wall will be fixed, but they have cordoned off the affected areas with temporary wooden walls so that you can't see anything. It looks just like an area of the shopping mall where they put up those big wooden walls with, "Exciting new store opening soon!" written on them. So, quite normal-ish. And Starbucks is also open in the building, so all is right with the world. :)
The building next door still looks like a bomb went off inside of it, though. They haven't gotten around to cleaning that one up yet -- a huge corner of the building is still open to the outside world, and you can peer inside and see people's desks and their computers just sitting there, exposed to the elements. You can almost envision a giant hand going inside of the building to set little people behind the desk and play "office" with them or something. Although the ripped off studs and exposed insulation definitely don't look as tidy as the cross-sectioned walls in a kid's playhouse!
Although the office is open, people are definitely really wary of all of the cranes that are still around the downtown Bellevue area. We had a thunderstorm go through today (which is a rarity in Seattle) -- and with the first peal of thunder, everyone looked around wondering what crane was about to crash next. Apparently when the crane fell, it felt like an earthquake, but sounded like thunder. I think everyone is looking forward to the long Thanksgiving weekend!
